What You Should Do For Your Home Exteriors After A Storm

Katelyn Lewis • July 20, 2022

It’s smart after any big storm to check out your home’s exteriors for any related damage. But what should you look for in a roof after a storm?

First things first: We don’t recommend you climb on your own roof.

You can most likely spot any storm damage from the ground, whether there’s a limb puncturing your roof, loose or missing shingles, or granule loss. Grab a pair of binoculars before you grab your ladder, please.

Rain on its own isn’t usually too damaging to your roof, but it becomes more powerful when combined with wind, hail, or flying debris like tree limbs.

Outside your home, you should look for:

– Roof penetrations or debris gathered on your roof or gutters.

– Granules, the tiny pebbles from your shingles. at the bottom of your downspouts.

– Missing, damaged, or curling shingles.

Inside, you should look for water infiltration. Visit each room and look for water spots, paint bubbling, or paint peeling on your ceiling and walls. If you have an attic or crawl space you can access, look to see if any of the insulation is darker in color or moist.

Hail damage is a bit harder to spot, so we recommend hiring a professional roofing company to assess your roof after a hail storm.

We offer complimentary storm damage assessments at Retex Roofing & Exteriors to remediate any storm damage your home’s experienced and bring you peace of mind quickly. Give us a call at 804-258-6300 or click the button below if you have identified an issue or would like us to assess your roof’s condition.
