Can Snow Damage My Roof?
Katelyn Lewis • January 21, 2026
Snow looks cozy… until it starts sitting on your roof for weeks.

Heavy snow + ice dams can cause:
- Hidden leaks
- Shingle lifting
- Gutter strain
- Interior ceiling damage
Note: Most damage happens when snow melts and refreezes, not during the storm itself. So enjoy the view while it’s snowing, but keep an eye on whether ice dams form in the days after the storm.
January is the best time for a post-snow roof check, even if you don’t see leaks yet. Call RETEX to schedule a free roof assessment.
