Richmond's Folk Festival – Retex Recap

The festival has become one of Virginia’s largest, enticing fans to downtown Richmond’s riverfront to “celebrate the roots, richness, and variety of American culture through music, dance, traditional crafts, storytelling, and food,” according to its website. 

And if you thought “folk festival” meant only bluegrass music, guess again. While there were a few bluegrass musicians, the festival had more than 30 performing artists from around the nation and world performing music from their country or region and typically reflecting their lifestyle. It also had a large craft marketplace as well as plenty of food and drink providers to keep guests entertained and satiated. 

Venture Richmond Events, in partnership with the National Council for the Traditional Arts (NCTA), the Center for Cultural Vibrancy, Virginia Humanities, the Children’s Museum, and the City of Richmond, put the free, three-day event together.
