Should You Add Gutter Guards To Your Gutters?

Katelyn Lewis • January 31, 2023

Gutter guards make it difficult for leaves and other debris to clog up your gutters, allowing the system to continue to divert water away from your roof and home.

They come in both plastic and metal options, and they can keep you from having to clean the debris out of your gutters yourself, saving you time and money.

But, like every other joy of being a homeowner, even gutter guards need occasional maintenance. Keep an eye on whether anything collects on top of them or if you start to see water flow over the edge of your gutters. You'll have to occasionally blow off your gutter guards during the spring and fall season – but it's an easier job than cleaning the gutters completely.

And if the water’s coming out over top rather than taking the gutter’s path of least resistance, more often than not it means you’ve got a clogged gutter or gutter guards that may need some TLC. Notice in the second picture here, this homeowner's gutter guard system was damaged, causing them to not work properly.
