Why Your Metal Roof May Benefit From A Recoating

Katelyn Lewis • January 17, 2023

Recoating your metal roof is a regular maintenance item that restores it to a like-new condition while creating a smaller burden on the environment.

We took these photos during a metal roof inspection in Richmond, VA, showing a roof in desperate need of a recoat.

Recoating metal roofs provides a less-expensive option than replacing them, with the coating sealing any leaks, cracks, and seams that may cause roof leaks inside your home. It’s more environmentally-friendly, too, as there’s less site debris, pollutants, and overall energy consumed than in a full tear-off and replacement. Plus, some coatings come with solar reflective properties, and you can change the  appearance of your roof, similar to painting a room in your home.

How often you need to recoat your roof depends on the type of metal and the coating product used, ranging between 10 and 20 years. Also in play for recoating is the frequency and types of natural stressors your roof is exposed to, such as wind, hail, snow, rain, temperature fluctuations, extreme heat, or extreme cold.

If you think your metal roof needs a fresh coat or other maintenance work, we’re here to help. Call us at 804-258-6300 to schedule an appointment today.
