Habitat Home Dedication: Welcome Home, Boyds!

Katelyn Lewis • October 5, 2022

Congratulations to the Boyd family on their new home!!!

Donyna Boyd served in the U.S. Army from 2009 to 2013, stationed as far away as South Korea during her active duty. Still serving in the Army Reserves, Boyd is a part of the Habitat for Heroes program. which enables current and former military members the opportunity and access to quality affordable housing.

"It's surreal. This house is over 100 years old, and just to see how beautiful it has become, people putting their time and knowledge into it," Boyd says. "I'm taking in the echoing, the kids running around and getting to play without being in my hair... I love that for them."

Thank you, Richmond Habitat, for letting us participate in this home dedication ceremony. The Retex team came to this 5th Ave build site a couple times, helping to install trim and paint doors in June and again this past Friday to knock out punch list items, including fashioning a railing for the basement stairs, installing a backyard gate door, and cutting fence posts. It’s incredible to get to meet the family moving in, and their smiles are contagious!

We love volunteering with our friends at Habitat, and these events make it all worthwhile.
