Is My Roof Covered For Storm Damage?

Is my roof covered for storm damage?

Most types of roofing damage by unforeseen or unpreventable causes – heavy winds, hail, hurricanes, lightning, fallen limbs, and tornadoes, for instance – are covered by homeowners’ insurance for storm damage.

However, not all roof damage is equal. Roof leaks that didn’t occur from sudden damage, instead accumulating over a number of years, typically fall to the homeowners for maintenance (or lack thereof). So, if you have a 20-year-old roof experiencing a leak after a recent storm, but there’s no evidence of a limb puncture, wind or hail damage, it may not be covered.

If you’re unsure whether your roof damage is caused by a storm or if it’s general wear-and-tear, here are three quick tips:

• Have a local, licensed and insured roofing contractor (like Retex!) inspect your roof.

• Review your insurance coverage to confirm what is and isn’t covered.

• If there is storm damage, contact your insurance company to discuss the next steps.

If you’re local to Richmond, Retex is here to help. We provide complimentary roof inspections for storm damage, repairs, and replacements. Call us at 804-258-6300 or click the button below to schedule your appointment today.
